National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
On Feb. 27, 1987 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March as Developmental Disability Awareness month. He stated. " I urge all Americans to join me in according to our fellow citizens with such disabilities both encouragement and the opportunities they need to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential." This is the same thought process that Lucy Idol had in 1954. She believed that all people should have the right to achieve their full potential no matter what their disability. Over that time period we have had many diagnoses with varying levels and combinations of disabilities come through the doors. The Lucy Idol Center will be celebrating 58 years of service this year thanks to the contributions of the community and our partners.
